Welcome to the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig).
The Department offers three consecutive courses: Computer Science, Media Informatics and Applied Mathematics. It additionally offers various courses in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics and Chemistry to students of other courses of study at HTWK Leipzig. The exchange program ERASMUS/SOCRATES of the EU and bilateral agreements with partner universities help German students to spend part of their studies abroad and offer foreign students ideal conditions for their studies at HTWK Leipzig. Student projects and dissertations as well as graduates of the department regularly take part in national competitions and win coveted awards. Our three expert advisers and deans are always available to advise prospective students on the choice of their study goals. We particularly welcome applications from women for our practically oriented courses of study.
The Department maintains close relations with regional and national companies, institutes and research institutions engaged in the provision of internships and job opportunities as well as in joint research projects, which offer options for doctorates. Current career opportunities in the fields of mathematics and computer science are very good. All programs are accredited by the ASIIN. This greatly simplifies and guarantees the national and international recognition of qualifications in the future career. Graduates of our Master programmes meet the conditions for admission to the higher ranks of the civil service.
The Department is very well staffed and equipped and thus provides a wide scope for practical experience in the course of both compulsory studies and self-chosen tasks. The location of the Department’s campus buildings guarantees easy access to all service facilities, lecture halls and laboratories. All facilities are in very good structural condition and adequately equipped for effective studies. There is a very good library in the campus. The courses are well-structured with organisational guidelines and milestones. The university campus and the city of Leipzig are characterised by open-mindedness and cultural diversity. Public transport in Leipzig is very well developed. Students travel at a very low price using so-called semester tickets. Leipzig is also a bicycle-friendly city. There is a wide range of opportunities for side jobs, internships and first entrepreneurial activities. Prices and rents are relatively low compared with other university cities, and there are various forms of living and organising everyday life.
